Language Experts and Cultural Ambassadors

Jeenie interpreters are more than linguists, they help others to navigate cultural differences and understand unique tonal and visual cues that non-native speakers often miss. They’re communication experts.

About the Thai Language

The Thai language, part of the Kra-Dai language family, has roots dating back over a thousand years, with its written script developed during the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng in the 13th century. Thai evolved from Old Thai, which was influenced by Pali and Sanskrit, due to the spread of Buddhism. As the official language of Thailand, Thai serves as a unifying force in the country, spoken by over 70 million people. Its script is distinctive, derived from the ancient Khmer alphabet.

Thai’s tonal nature and rich vocabulary have made it a key medium for literature and performing arts. Classic works like the Ramakien, Thailand's version of the Ramayana, showcase the cultural depth that language carries. Over the centuries, Thai has absorbed foreign influences but retains a deep connection to the kingdom’s history and identity.

About Thai Culture

Thai culture is deeply imbued with respect for tradition, the monarchy, and social harmony.

The word "Sanuk" perfectly captures the essence of Thai life—it refers to the idea of enjoying life and finding joy in daily activities, even in difficult circumstances. This concept is reflected in the laid-back yet warm hospitality for which Thailand is renowned. Central to Thai culture is the concept of "wai", a traditional gesture of greeting and respect, where hands are placed in a prayer-like position. The importance of respect for elders and authority figures permeates many aspects of Thai society.

In recent years, Thailand has been grappling with political unrest, particularly surrounding the monarchy and military rule, but the resilience of the Thai people is unwavering. Cultural events like Songkran (the Thai New Year) continue to showcase the importance of family and community bonds, while festivals such as Loy Krathong highlight the reverence for nature and the belief in starting anew. Thai culture, with its emphasis on respect and joy, remains a strong unifier in the face of modern challenges.

FAQs

How much does Thai interpreting cost?

Across the industry, Thai interpreting is typically charged on a per minute rate. With Jeenie, our rates are some of the best in the industry. Your per minute rate will depend on which Jeenie plan you have. See our Pricing page for more details.

Note: Jeenie offers the same rate for Video and Audio-only. Why?
Because we know that video sessions get better outcomes. Video captures non-verbal cues (75% – 93% of most interactions) – making it more efficient and more effective in critical interactions.

Are Thai translators and Thai interpreters the same thing?

We get this question a lot.

Thai interpreters help with spoken interactions. They are present in-the-moment to help people with different languages to communicate (Thai into English and English into Thai). Interpreters Thai serve as communication and are experts at cultural nuance. They help to ensure that both parties understand each other.

Thai translators help with written documents. Translators convert written text into the needed language.

How are Thai interpreters on Jeenie different from other services?

Jeenie attracts the best interpreters in the world. Truly. We constantly hear from clients that they have NEVER had such amazing interpreters on other services. That skill saves our clients time and minimizes their risk of costly miscommunications. Here's how we excel at quality:

We treat interpreters well.
Jeenie offers linguists great compensation (often the best in the industry), work-life flexibility, ongoing learning to improve their craft, and our heart-felt respect. For this and many other reasons, the best interpreters want to be on the Jeenie platform.

We have extremely high standards.
Unlike most of our competitors who outsource huge chunks of their interpreting needs, Jeenie has created a vetted network of global talent who are active within our platform. This gives us direct oversight on quality and skills assessment. Jeenie interpreters must pass our rigorous skills evaluations, have several years of experience, maintain 4.0 average client rating, and pass ongoing quality tests.
